Gloria Bottorff

March 2, 1931 ~ December 31, 2012

Gloria Joyce Bottorff was born March 2, 1931 and died December 31, 2012.

Gloria was raised in Caldwell and graduated with the Class of 1949. Following the year she graduated she attended the Wichita Business College. While attending and after Business School, Gloria worked as a receptionist and also made decals in the shop for a firm on E. Central in Wichita. She then returned to Caldwell, Kansas where she worked at Duckwalls until 1951.

When Gerald returned from overseas he and Gloria were married September 28, 1951 at the Central Christian Church in Caldwell, Kansas. Because of Gerald’s Army enlistment Gloria traveled the world with him. They shared 61 years of marriage.

Wherever Gerald was stationed during his enlistment Gloria volunteered at the school and received a commendation from the Commanding General in charge of Army Community Services. She served as a liaison between civilians and Army Community Services. After Rob and Tim were born they were stationed at Fort Hood, where she saved the life of three young children.

Gloria was surrounded by her family at her passing.

She is survived by her husband Gerald; children, Tim and Connie, Rob and Nic; six grandchildren, Mirah, Jami, Lake, Lewis, Braxton, Leona; two step-grandchildren Stephanie and Ryan; seven great-grandchildren, Michael, Chad, Raegan, Rylee, Cassie, Brody and CJ.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. Thursday, January 3, 2013 at the Schaeffer Mortuary Chapel.

Memorials may be given in Gloria's name to the Central Christian Church or to the Caldwell High School Alumni Association.

Gerald, my sincerest sympathy to you and your family on the passing of Gloria.

When Kenny and I visited Maude and Ike in Caldwell, Gloria would sit on the back steps with Kenny and reminisce about our days in Caldwell.

We appreciated so much that she kept an eye out for Maude and Ike. That was such a relief to us to know you were there if they needed help.

Gloria was always kind to me when I moved to Caldwell. That meant a great deal to me as being the "new" kid on the block is not always easy. She will be missed by many.

I'm not usually at a loss of words, but I've struggled since receiving the news of Gloria's death. What a memorable life she and Gerald had....all 61 years. She was always concerned about others. She even found time to stop by the hospital to see Howard when he was so ill. That meant so much...her love and concern. I look forward to seeing the family at her service tomorrow.

Gerald, Gloria was a good friend and my Classmate of the 1949 CHS Class. She was so smart and we always had a lot to talk about at our Class Reunions or whenever I would see her at Caldwell. I remember so well that she was one of the Big Six Girls in our class. The Girls were Gloria, Marcia, Vera, Kathryn, Norma Lee and Colleen. I remember when you had your Cabin at Drury and we would see both of you sometimes and fish off of your Dock with one of our Granddaughters. I wish we could have been at the funeral, but one of our daughter's Mother-in-Law's funeral was on Thursday and we had to be there for that. Our thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family at his time. Don
