Alan Carter Kubik, 76, died Saturday, November 19, 2016, in Escondido, California, after a long battle with cancer. He was born in Caldwell, Kansas, on December 2, 1939, to Ted and Mary Hawk Kubik. After graduation from Caldwell High School, Alan attended his beloved University of Kansas, obtaining his bachelor’s degree in education. Alan moved to California where he enjoyed decades of teaching. He maintained close friendships with many of his former students until his death.
Alan is preceded in death by his parents and infant sister, Teddy Jane. Survivors include his sister, Shirley Kubik Deterding of Hutchinson, nieces Amy Deterding Keeny (Mark) of Wichita and Jane Deterding (Brent Lehner) of Goddard, two great-nieces and two great-nephews, and numerous friends and extended family. No services are planned at this time. A memorial has been established with the KU School of Education; donations can be made through the mortuary or online (kuendowment.org/givenow).
