Alice Ella Urban Spatz, 100, of Haysville, homemaker, died Friday, November 11, 2011 at the Haysville Healthcare Center.
She was the youngest of 10 children born to Czechoslovakian immigrants, Joseph and Rosalie (Hajek) Urban on August 25, 1911 at Renfrow, Oklahoma. Alice attended Pleasant Valley School in Sumner County and graduated from Caldwell High School in 1929. She attended the American Business College in Wichita receiving her certificate in 1930.
Alice was united in marriage to Harry Theodore Spatz on August 21, 1943 at Caldwell, Kansas. To this union 2 sons were born, Marion Lee and Rodney Lynn Spatz.
Bowling, bingo and pitch were among some of Alice’s favorite activities. She also enjoyed watching baseball and loved watching her children and grandchildren play sports.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents, husband Harry, brothers, Joseph, Otto, Ben, Perry and Daniel; sisters, Annie Yochens, Clara Jones and Stacy Keller.
She is survived by her sons Marion Spatz and his wife Neva of Peck, KS, Rodney Spatz and his wife Patsy of Mulvane, KS; grandchildren, Candi (David) Smith, Marc (Megan) Spatz, Lori (Brad) Rupp, Wendi (Chad) Tilson, Gemi (Jayson) Miller and Lenae (Sgt. Ryan) Kirkhart; great-grandchildren, Sydni Rupp, Morgan Spatz, Hallacy Miller, Avery Rupp, Gatlin Tilson, Easton Miller, Roddy Spatz, Traxler Kirkhart, Mason Rupp, Karli Tilson, Beu Tilson and Reno Spatz.
Memorials may be given in memory of Alice to the Harry Hynes Hospice, 313 S. Market, Wichita, KS 67022.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, November 14, 2011 at the Schaeffer Mortuary Chapel.
Visitation will be held 1:00 p.m to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, November 13, 2011.

Jak se máš? Grandma Alice was a special lady! I know you all will miss her so much. I know I will miss her. She knew how much she was loved by many, especially her family. She loved her family and her friends! Those that knew Grandma Alice were fortunate. Her sense of humor, kindness and spunky Czech nature are a few of things that I will remember about her. She was not easily forgotten. I will never forget Grandma Alice teaching me Czech phrases (a few at the church during Lori's wedding rehearsal) and the time she and I danced in the street on Mt. Vernon! Řekni tátovi, že jsem řekl hi a že ho miluju a po něm stýská. Ty bude velmi chybět!

We are so sorry to hear of Alice passing. We just found out this morning that she had passed away. I (Terry) have so many good memories of her when we were kids in the old neighborhood. Please know we are thinking of you today.
