Bess Ginn

July 20, 1913 ~ November 29, 2013

Bess Hope Ginn completed her journey to eternity on Friday, November 29, 2013 at the age of 100. She was born July 20, 1913 in Caldwell, Kansas to Dick and Dorothy Hoskins Crumbliss. Bess grew up in the Caldwell area and graduated from Caldwell High School in 1931. On July 20, 1934, she married her high school sweetheart, Orville Roy Ginn and they honeymooned in Estes Park, Colorado. Bess and Orville made their home in the Corbin/Caldwell area where they farmed and raised cattle and in later years owned and operated the Corbin Lumber Company and Corbin L-P Gas Service. Bess and Orville retired and moved to Caldwell where they lived until Orville passed away in 2004. When Bess could no longer live alone she moved to the Goodrich Care Home in Caldwell and then to the Sumner County Care Center in Wellington.

Bess’ family was foremost in her life. Her 3 children, 9 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren and 28 great-great grandchildren were her greatest joy. She was an excellent wife and was a mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother who will always be remembered for her red jello salad and peanut butter cake.

Together Bess and Orville enjoyed growing beautiful hybrid roses and loved to share them with family, friends and neighbors. They also enjoyed returning to that honeymoon spot in Colorado at every opportunity.

Bess was a member of the Corbin United Methodist Church, the Falls Center Community Club and Sorosis Club and was always willing to do whatever needed to be done.

Bess was preceded in death by her husband, parents, stepmother Ethel Crumbliss Harding, sisters Maxine O’Brate and Margie Leyerly, and brother R W Crumbliss.

She is survived by sons, Gary Ginn and wife Clara of Caldwell, David Ginn and wife Peggy of Caldwell; daughter, Carolyn Rains and her husband Clark of Wellington and 91 additional descendants.

Her family feels very blessed to have been able to celebrate her 100 years of life with her on July 20, 2013. We thank God for his fulfilled promises during her lifetime and praise Him for His Faithfulness.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 3, 2013 at the United Methodist Church in Corbin, Kansas.

Memorials may be given to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

We couldn't have asked for better neighbors than Orville and Bess. She was a wonderful, loving lady and leaves behind great memories of a life well lived.
