Beverly (Betty), (Brandt) Prochaska, 97, passed away at home, Monday, December 4, 2017. She was born January 19, 1920, in Brooklyn, New York, the first of four daughters, to Kai and Elsa (Tuxen) Brandt.
She graduated from Brighton High School, Rochester, New York in 1937. After graduation she became a dental assistant working in New York City, New York. She served in the Army from 1942 to 1944, Army Specialty as a dental technician. Betty married Albert (Mike) Cecil Prochaska on February 22, 1944 in Fort Myers, Florida. They made their home in Caldwell, Kansas after WWII until Albert was called back in the Air Force for the Korean War. After various moves and his retirement from the Air Force they moved to Salina, Kansas.
Betty not only loved sewing, knitting, gardening and cooking, she was a voracious reader and enjoyed making everyone welcome at the table plus cherished lifelong friendships.
She is survived by: sons; David of Hays, Kansas, Roger, of Salina, Kansas; daughters, Nancy Montalvo (Danny) of N. Richland Hills, Texas, Jennifer of Newtown, Pennsylvania; sister, Doris Steimer of Bethpage, New York; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Kai and Elsa; husband, Albert (April 2004); son, Michiel (November 2010); sisters, Marjorie and Ellen.
Her wish to be cremated has been performed, and a quiet family graveside gathering will be held at Devore Cemetery at a future date.
Memorials may be given to the VFW and American Legion Post’ organizations of one’s choice to honor veterans in her name. A special Thank You and appreciation to Ryan Mortuary, Salina, Kansas and Schaeffer Mortuary, Caldwell, Kansas for their services.
