Carol Beth Ferguson (Johnson), affectionately known as CB, Mom, or Grandma Carol, was born in Wichita, Kansas on December 17, 1930, to Lowell and Glenna Johnson. She was raised in Wichita, Kansas and later graduated from Wellington High School, where she met the love of her life, Jay Lee Ferguson.
Carol and Jay Lee were united in marriage on July 17, 1949. Together, they built a beautiful life on a farm near Renfrow, Oklahoma. There, they raised their three children in a home rooted in faith, hard work, and unconditional love. As they farmed and raised sheep, Carol poured her heart into nurturing her family and creating a warm, welcoming home filled with laughter and love while also being a friend to all.
Carol and Jay Lee raised their children in the Central Christian Church of Caldwell, Kansas, where Carol faithfully served for many years. Her deep love for Jesus was the foundation of her life, and she instilled that faith in her children and grandchildren. Her walk with the Lord was evident in her selfless service, her gentle spirit, and her unwavering love for others.
A devoted farm wife with a heart for animals, Carol was also an extraordinarily gifted seamstress. She lovingly crafted 4-H costumes, dresses for her daughters, and countless other creations — always with care and joy. In her later years, Carol worked as a CNA at Caldwell Hospital, where her kind and nurturing nature was a blessing to her patients. She especially cherished the time spent rocking newborn babies, sharing God’s love through her tender care. Carol will be remembered as kind, witty, nurturing, and full of grace. Her legacy of faith, love, and service lives on through her family. She was a proud and loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. When once asked about her growing family of 3 children, 8 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren , she humbly said, “And I did all of this.”
Carol was welcomed into the arms of her Savior and reunited in Heaven with her parents, Lowell and Hester Johnson, and her beloved mother who was gone too soon, Genna Johnson.
She is lovingly remembered by her children: Kathy (Johnny) LeCrone, Steven (Jeannie) Ferguson, and Christine (Mark) Hanzlicek.
Her grandchildren: Matt (Jacie) LeCrone, Andrew (Carey) Hanzlicek , Laura (Joe) Shook, Tamara (Mark) Scully, Brandon (Bethany) Hanzlicek, Lisa (Jason) Whiting, Brady (Paige) Hanzlicek, Stephanie (Preston) Frazier.
Her great-grandchildren: Abby and Caden, Aiden, William, Alexander and Vivian, Stetson, Emma and Hadley, Gilbert and Margaret, Madilyn, Henry and Rayleigh, Sarah and Sadie.
Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 9, 2025 at the Caldwell City Cemetery with Rev. Jay Young presiding.
Memorials may be made the Central Christian Church of Caldwell, Kansas, in honor of Carol’s lifelong faith and service, and sent in care of the mortuary.
