Charlene Alexander passed away on July 28, 2020 in Caldwell, Kansas at the age of 75. She was born on October 29, 1944 in Portland, Oregon to Charles Kirchen and Norma Allen.
Charlene loved life, her family, her dog Velvet, books, and pizza. She was also an avid collector of Elvis Presley memorabilia; she loved the King of Rock and Roll.
She was an avid reader of many types of books, sometimes reading two or three books at a time. Her favorite authors were James Patterson and Debra Macomber.
Charlene loved learning. Over the years she attended many colleges. Taking and completing many courses in subjects that stretched across the spectrum of life and culture. She enjoyed the vitality and thirst for learning shared by those on the college campus.
Everyone that met Charlene loved her and she considered everyone a friend. Charlene and Velvet had many friends that filled their days with visits; bringing lunch, medicine, providing assistance, or just coming to talk about current events, books, and movies. There was no one who brought her more joy and happiness than her daily companion Velvet. She loved that dog, and Velvet was her best friend.
The many kindnesses the citizens of Caldwell showed her during her short time here as a resident made her feel welcome and loved. Many thanks to the library ladies for faithfully bringing her books, the friendship meals and pharmacy delivery teams. You may not have known it, but you were her friends; friends she thought about and cared for each and every day. A special thanks to Kathy Schmidt who was there for her in her final moments.
Charlene is preceded in death by her grandparents, Fred and Ethel Lawrence; parents Charles Kirchen and Norma Allen; brother Robert Lawrence and granddaughter Brandy Marie.
Charlene is survived by her daughters Katherine and husband Jim, and Bernadine and husband Chris; grandsons, Christopher, Garrison and Robert; and great-grandson, Darrell James.
Cremation has taken place and private family services will be held.

I was Charlene’s Schwan’s delivery man since last January. I saw her and her dog every other Thursday and I always enjoyed their company. I’m going to miss seeing the both of you.
