Charles Rohrbaugh


July 31, 1934 ~ March 9, 2009


Charles Ross Rohrbaugh, the seventh of eight children, was born on July 31, 1934 to Albert Leroy and Ida Belle Jenkins Rohrbaugh in Gray County, KS. Charlie passed from this earth at his home on March 9, 2009 at the age of 74.

Charles married the love of his life, Mary Louise Batman on August 23, 1954 in Ingalls, KS. To this union four children were born. Charlie and Mary Lou moved to Caldwell, KS in June 1958 where they raised their family.

Charlie enjoyed sports, especially if one of his kids was playing. He was a member of the Bluejay Backers, the Quarterback Club, and the Sportsman Club.

Charlie was a lineman for Western Power and Light until his retirement in 1996. He did electrical work for many area folks. Charlie enjoyed playing cards and dominoes, fishing and hunting and retirement gave him more time for all of these activities. He was a pushover with his grandkids, especially the girls. Retirement also allowed him time to spoil the great-grandkids.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters. He is survived by his wife of of 54 years, Mary Lou of the home; daughters and their husbands, Valorie and Gaylen Reedy of Caldwell, KS and Cynthia and David Moss of Derby, KS; sons, Greg Rohrbaugh of Oklahoma City, OK and Michael Rohrbaugh of Caldwell, KS; two brothers, Bernard Rohrbaugh of North Fork, CA and Dale Rohrbaugh of Oklahoma City, OK; a sister, LaDonna Rice of Stillwater, OK; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He will also be missed by his friends with whom he played cards and dominoes, fished and hunted.

Friends may call at the mortuary from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 10, 2009 and 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 11, 2009.

Graveside services for Charlie will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 11, 2009 at the Caldwell City Cemetery, Caldwell, Kansas. A memorial in Charles’ name has been established with the American Heart Association.
