Darrell Bruner

April 20, 1937 ~ August 8, 2020

Darrell Arthur Bruner, 83, went home to be with his Lord Jesus on Saturday, August 8, 2020, at his home near Renfrow, Oklahoma. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, August 12, at Assembly of God, Caldwell, Kansas.

Darrell was born April 20, 1937, in Enid, Oklahoma to Arthur and Alice Bruner. He grew up west of Renfrow, Oklahoma on a farm, attending first grade at District #30. He started school at Caldwell, Kansas in the second grade and graduated with the Class of 1955. Subsequently, he began pursuing a degree in Agricultural Education at Friends University, Wichita, Kansas. While at Friends, he was the president of the Singing Quakers, played trombone in the brass ensemble, and was elected junior class vice-president. After two years at Friends, he transferred to Oklahoma State University, Stillwater, Oklahoma, where he was a member of Farmhouse Fraternity, Warner Fellowship, and Collegiate FFA. Darrell graduated OSU in 1959 with a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Education.

In December of 1959, Darrell went on active artillery training with the US Army Reserve, serving for six years. He worked for CIT Financial Corporation in Wichita as an adjuster, before returning to farm at Renfrow in 1961. Darrell raised wheat, beef cattle, and hogs, being recognized by the Grant County Conservation District for the outstanding conservation of his farming operation. Darrell faithfully served on the Caldwell Assembly of God Deacon Board for 40 years, the Medford School Board of Education for 20 years, and the Clyde Coop Board of Directors for 15 years.

Dorothy Lebeda first met Darrell on an arranged blind date, while at Caldwell High School, and they quickly became high school sweethearts. They were married August 2, 1959, in Caldwell and had just celebrated 61 years of marriage. Darrell and Dorothy enjoyed spending time together in work, travel, and service to the Lord.

Darrell is remembered for being a kind, humble, hardworking, patient, God-fearing man. His convictions led him to serve his community and church with quiet wisdom. He sought to be a living witness of Christ to all he met.

Darrell is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy of Renfrow, Oklahoma; daughter, Rev. Janet Faggart of Sherman, Texas; son, Dr. Kent and wife Jennifer Bruner of Milton, Georgia; and son, Darrin and wife Cynthia Bruner of Tioga, Texas; granddaughter, Katrina and husband Blake Stockton of Sherman, Texas; grandson, Jonathan and wife Kathryn Faggart of Baldwinsville, New York; granddaughter, Emily Bruner of Dallas, Texas; granddaughter, Ashley Bruner of Tioga, Texas; and grandson, Chase Bruner of Milton, Georgia; great-granddaughters, Abigail Elizabeth Stockton and Hannah Grace Stockton of Sherman, Texas; great-granddaughter, Elisheva Rose Faggart of Baldwinsville, New York; and sisters, Georgene (Bruner) Corbitt of Longmont, Colorado, and Arthene (Bruner) Shellhammer of Caldwell, Kansas.

Darrell is preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Alice Bruner; his sister, Kathy (Bruner) Albright; and his son-in-law, Rev. Jonathan E. Faggart.

Funeral services will held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug 12 at the Hope Church in Caldwell. Due to Covid-19 the funeral will be restricted to family only.

Memorials may be made in Darrell’s name to the Accord Ministries, Canine Assistants, or to the Assembly of God Missions and sent in care of the mortuary.

Visitation will be held 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday.

Rick Ballard - 08/10/2020

We are so sorry for your loss and pray for the Lord to wrap His loving arms around all of you and give you His peace as you journey through this season of grief. Though we did not know Mr. Bruner well, we have been so blessed by what we have seen in his son and family as they continually minister to those around them. The fruit we HAVE seen tells us the kind of man, father, and grandfather he was; the living witness of Christ he passed on through his children and grandchildren. You are extremely blessed to have such beautiful moments of life together that will provide you with sustaining memories to enjoy and share.

May this service truly celebrate his life and bring honor to Jesus...the perfector of our faith! May His best be yours.

FBC Gunter

Dorothy and Family,

Rick and Virgin... - 08/10/2020

Dorothy and Family,

Words cannot express our love and appreciation for Darrell. Having the privilege of working with him on the Church Board for all 13 years of our ministry in Caldwell; observing the respect and esteem for him in the community; and seeing the fruit of his faith and life in his family and the congregation of Caldwell Assembly of God; our family was blessed to have called him "friend". As my son said, when told of the news of Darrell's passing, "What a truly lovely man, with a lovely voice." Our hearts and prayers go out to the Bruner family during this time of grief. We are reminded of that great promise of Scripture: "To be absent from this body is to be present with the Lord.". We have to believe that Darrell has already joined the bass section of the heavenly choir!

Sondra Fisk Rogers - 08/12/2020

Dear Dorothy. I am saddened to hear Darrell has left our beautiful black soil of rich Oklahoma farmland. He was a worthy steward of the many gifts bestowed upon him. The picture you chose for the obituary captures the spirit of Darrell-a follower of Christ. God be with you and your family. Sondra
