David H. Lowe

December 22, 1943 ~ June 2, 2017

David Howard Lowe was born December 22, 1943, at Caldwell, KS to Howard and Grace (Cadwalader) Lowe. Dave was the third of six children. He graduated from Caldwell High School with the class of 1961. He excelled in football as a Center earning all-state football honors. During his junior year at CHS, a young girl from country school, Diana Wooderson, came to town for high school, and as they say, the rest is history. They were united in marriage on March 17, 1963 and had two daughters, Dawn Renee and Dana Jean.

Dave spent his young adult years working in law enforcement with the Caldwell Police Department and the Sumner County Sheriff’s Department. He later began a career in the Insurance industry because of the influence of good friend, Walter Reeder. This led Dave and his family to Wichita, Kansas and then to St. Joseph, Missouri before returning to his home town to run his own agency.

Dave took great pride in Caldwell and enjoyed serving his community, including the Central Christian Church, the Chamber of Commerce, the Lions’s Club and serving on the board for both KanOkla and Wheatland Electric. He also loved his John Deere toys, and took every opportunity to combine those two loves… clearing the sidewalks of Main street during any snow storm.

Dave had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to tell stories. He could entertain his kids and grandkids for hours with antics from his younger days… and sometimes even antics from his older days. He adored his family and had many life-long friendships -- proof of his unwavering loyalty to those he loved and cared for.

Dave died early Friday morning, June 2, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family. He was 73 years old.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his older brother, Alfred Lowe; brothers-in-law Karl Willey and Glenn Cauble; nephew Todd Lowe. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Diana; his daughter Dawn Lowe and husband Don Serup of Edmond, OK; and his daughter Dana Lowe of Caldwell, KS; six grandchildren, Courtney Rohrbaugh (Michael Newell), Whitney Rohrbaugh (Verna Rohrbaugh), Mason Eckermann, Lane Serup, Paige Serup and Cooper Serup; three great grandchildren, Miles Newell, Ava Newell and Emma Rohrbaugh; brothers, Richard Lowe and wife Joyce of Caldwell, KS; Paul Lowe and wife Michelle of Florence, SC; sisters Margaret Freemyer and husband Paul of Helotes, TX; Mary Cauble of Granbury, TX; sisters-in-law Linda Willey and Margaret Lowe; numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 6, 2017 at the United Methodist Church in Caldwell, Kansas.

Memorials may be given in memory of Dave to the Central Christian Church or to the Caldwell High School Alumni Scholarship Fund and left in care of the mortuary.

We extend our deepest sympathy to you in the passing of Dave. We have fond memories of him from our years (1985-1991) in Caldwell, especially during church services and activities at Central Christian Church. His smile and laughter was contagious. Our neighbor, and your mother Diana, Genevieve Wooderson, was so proud to have him as a son-in-law. We pray that God will wrap you in comfort & love.
