COURTESY NOTICE

Dee Ann Ginn died in hospice care at William Newton Memorial Hospital, Winfield, Kansas, Saturday, December 20, 2025.

Dee was an elementary school teacher for 43 years in the Wellington and Oxford, Kansas school districts.  Dee got both her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and her Masters of Education as a Reading Specialist from Wichita State University. Dee was beloved as a teacher and mentor to many student teachers during her teaching career.

Dee was active in Christian faith groups and church life working with children, infants, and toddlers in the Oxford Christian Church, and after retirement, as a member in the Winfield First United Methodist Church. She loved God and had a passion to pass faith on to the kids she worked with in Sunday school and youth groups. Dee believed that kind words were wonderful and kind acts were better yet.

Dee loved to cook and had a God-given gift for hospitality and service. Dee also loved quilting with her ornery friends at the monthly Cumbernauld Quilters Club.

Most of all, Dee loved her husband Danny of 47 years and her daughters Shalinn, a speech-language pathologist and Mallory, an elementary instructional strategist.

Dee is survived by her husband Danny of the home, her daughter Shalinn Silkwood and husband Micah (Kansas City), her daughter Mallory Ginn (Emporia), her parents Robert and Jacqueline Foster (Kansas City), sister Sherry Novick and husband Paul (Kansas City), sister-in-law Wanda Whaley (Winfield), brother-in-law Russ Ginn and wife Karen (Sugar Grove, Illinois) many beloved nephews and nieces: Chase and Katy, Colin and Regan, Kyane and Chad, Codi and Nick, Jake, Keith and Olivia, Lauren and Mo, Jenny and Jim, Louis and Cassie, Katie and Mike plus many great nieces, nephews, students, and friends.

Dee’s family would also like to thank Dr. Bryan Dennett, the nursing staff of William Newton Memorial Hospital, and Good Shepherd Hospice for their compassion, care, and kindness.

Celebration of Life services will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, December 28, 2025 at First United Methodist Church in Winfield.

In lieu of flowers you are invited to make memorial contributions to the First United Methodist Church Tuesday’s Table Ministry, a local outreach serving over 200 free meals to those in need every Tuesday evening.
