March 15, 1954 ~ March 22, 2018
On March 22, 2018 “Janie” slipped the surly bonds of earth and is now dancing with her Savior, the angels and her parents in paradise. Jane was born on March 15, 1954 and was lovingly adopted by Charles and Dorothy Baker shortly after her birth. She was doted on by her maternal grandparents Henry and Maude Stanton of Mayfield, Kansas, and paternal grandparents Victor and Nora Baker, of Caldwell, Kansas, who also preceded her in death. Jane grew up on her family farm southwest of Caldwell until her parents moved to town. She and her parents were members of the Central Christian Church in Caldwell. She attended Starkey Developmental Center for many years as a young girl, later transferring to Futures Unlimited in Wellington, Kansas where she lived and worked until June of last year. A fall and broken leg required a move to Botkin Care in Wellington where a loving and dedicated staff soon became as enamored with her as Futures staff had been for many years. Janie, loved country music; she was especially fond of Garth Brooks. She loved working in the Futures workshop and loved her friends and family whom she often charmed with her infectious laugh and sometimes-ornery sense of humor. She was a clothes “diva” to the very end and always enjoyed shopping whenever possible.
In addition to her parents and grandparents, she was preceded in death by her Uncles and Aunts, B.A. and Blanche Ciskowski of Medford Oklahoma and Dean and Helen Edwards, of Fort Worth, TX.
Janie is survived by her cousins: Marlene and LeRoy Boyer, Oklahoma City, Karolyn and John McKenna of San Carlos, CA; Ruth Schmidt of Yukon, OK and Peggy and Wally Tucker of Mineral Wells, TX. She also is survived by her best friend of over 30 years Iva Prouse of Wellington, KS; her 2nd cousin and guardian Teresa Carter of Wichita, KS, and a host of extended family and friends and the dedicated staff of Futures Unlimited who were like family for over 30 years.
Services are Tuesday March 27, 2018 at 11 a.m. at the Central Christian Church of Caldwell, 206 N. Market St. with internment at Caldwell Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Janie’s honor to Futures Unlimited, 2410 N A Street, Wellington, KS 67152 or the Central Christian Church of Caldwell.

Lord how Jane will be missed! Everyone in the workshop at Futures is so blessed to have had the time we did with her. There was not a day that went by that Jane did not make me laugh for one reason or another. Go Caldwell seemed to be her favorite saying when anyone was celebrating a job well done, a birthday, or even just receiving her paycheck. This world was such a better place when Jane was around!
