Floyd Mardis


March 5, 1934 ~ April 9, 2019


Floyd Oliver Mardis was born March 5, 1934 in Bluff City, KS to Oliver Leroy and Louise (Chamberlain) Mardis. He attended Bluff City schools graduating in the Class of 1952.


He was inducted in the US Army in Feb. 1957 and served during the Korean Conflict. After returning from Korea he was transferred to the Army Reserves until receiving his Honorable Discharge in January 1963.


Floyd was united in marriage to Barbara Smith on Dec. 23, 1956 in the Anthony Christian Church. To this union was born four children; Kenny, Debbie, David and Richard.


Following in the family footsteps, Floyd returned in Caldwell in 1958 working for his father at L & L Electric. For over 45 years, Floyd serviced appliances and did numerous wiring jobs. He served on the Caldwell volunteer Fire Dept. retiring in 1992 after 30 years of firefighting. He was a Past Master of Sumner Lodge #203 serving in every chair and was Secretary for several years; served as elder and deacon of the Presbyterian Church and was on the Library Board for many years.


After retiring, many hours were spent drinking coffee at the Red Barn or watching the Red Barn from the comfort of his easy chair in front of the bay window.


Numerous trips were made to Branson, Missouri to see “the boys” and go to the shows, enjoy the fishing or just to get out of town.


Floyd passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday evening, April 9, 2019 in his apartment at Friendship Village at the age of 85 years, 1 month and 4 days.


He is survived by his wife Barbara; children: Kenny (Norma) of Merriam Woods, Missouri, Debbie Webster (Chris) of Ozark, Missouri, David (Teresa) of Caldwell, Kansas and Richard of Wichita, Kansas.; 6 grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; 2 great- grandchildren; 3 step-great-grandchildren; numerous other relatives and a few friends.


A Celebration Of Life will be held 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Saturday, April 13, 2019 at the Caldwell Opera House.


Memorials may be given in memory of Floyd to the Caldwell Firefighters Association and may be left in care of the mortuary.

Sorry to hear about Floyd's passing. He was a sweet sweet man and I always loved talking to Floyd and you at the Red Barn or whenever we met on the street or at Valasta's. Wish I could be there for his funreal but at this time it is not possible. But my thought and prayers will be with you and your family. Love You.

David and Teresa, I am sorry to learn of your loss. Unfortunately, I only knew Floyd a few years. I liked him very much. Whenever we got together he would make my day. He was a joy to be around. His love of otherws shone through his personality. I will be praying for you two.
