George E. "Eddie" Mathews, 77, of Drury, KS, retired aircraft spray painter, went to be with the Lord, at his home Friday afternoon, April 25, 2014. He was born the son of George W. and Charlotte L. (Storts) Mathews, February 21, 1937 at Oklahoma City, OK.
Eddie married Sharolyn Higgins October 1, 1955 at Miami, Oklahoma. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge A.F. & A.M. of Wellington, KS for 19 yrs., the Elk Lodge of Winfield, KS for 38 yrs. and the Scottish Rite of Wichita, KS 19 yrs.
He is survived by his wife of 58 yrs., Sharolyn; sons, Edward (Shelly) of Arkansas City, KS, John of Corbin, KS, Mark (Sandy) of Wellington, KS; daughter, Leila Walker (Tracy) of Arkansas City, KS, sister Shirley Ratliff (Larry) of Oxford, KS; 7 grandchildren, Tricia (Nate) Cook, Anson (Sarah) Mathews, Chris (Kamber) Mathews, Tiffany (Jason) Wallut, Sharolyn Mathews, Desiree’ Mathews, Isaac Mathews, a step-granddaughter, Cameron Walker and 10 great-grandchildren, Colton Cook, Lakin Cook, Chase Mathews, Preston Hearlson, Jadin Hearlson, Kori Mathews, Riley Mathews, Brody Mathews, Zaden Mathews, Katie Howell. He is also survived by many nieces & nephews.
Eddie was a family man, often taking his family roller-skating, boating, water-skiing, camping, fishing & spelunking. He also was a boy scout leader when his boys were young in Oxford, KS for 3 yrs. In later years, he enjoyed CB radios, animal and bird watching.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George & Charlotte Mathews and one grandson, Loren Hearlson.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at the United Methodist Church in Corbin, KS. Interment will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Oxford Cemetery, Oxford, KS.
Memorials may be given in Eddie's name to the United Methodist Church, Corbin, Kansas
