James R. "Jim" Booth


May 30, 1929 ~ November 30, 2015


James R. “Jim” Booth was born May 30, 1929 at home in Deer Creek, Oklahoma. He was the eldest of 2 children born to Russell and Leta (Ringer) Booth. Jim died November 30, 2015 at Bass Integris in Enid, Oklahoma. He was 86 years old.


Jim and his sister Naomi attended rural grade school and graduated from Deer Creek High School. He attended NOC Tonkawa and served in the Air Force from 1950 to 1954. Jim met his wife Shirley in Baton Rouge, Louisiana while being stationed in Shreveport, Louisiana.


He graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1962 with a Mechanical Engineering Degree. He and Shirley made their home wherever Jims jobs took him, eventually settling in Houston, Texas. They had three daughters Bonnie, Nancy and Carol.


Jim let his daughters pick his sons, Arthur Thomas, Robert Davis and Dennis Coufal. From these unions came eight grandchildren, Russell, Rachel, Paul, Ellen, Brett, Allan, Sarah and Andrew; great grandchildren, Michael, Jacob, Finley, Emma and making her debut in February is Reagan.


He was very proud of his family and touched many people through his service with the Masons and Shriners.


One of many talents was barbequing for family and friends and untangling fishing lines from many weekends on the lake with his wife and daughters.


He was very dedicated to the Masonic Lodge and enjoyed fund raisers and community service.


Jim was preceded in death by his parents Russ and Leta and sister Naomi.


A memorial graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 5, 2015 at the Mt. Olive Cemetery, Nardin, Oklahoma.


Memorials may be given in memory of Jim to the Deer Creek Volunteer Fire Department, Deer Creek, Oklahoma and left at the mortuary.

Sorry to hear of your loss. I remember seeing Jim at a Masonic function here in Ponca many years ago when I was very active in Eastern Star and I was so glad to see him after so many years! Grew up with the girls in Houston - Shirley would take us to school in the mornings! Great memories Bonnie, Nancy and Carol!! Prayers for you all as you go through this time - much love to you all.
