Jan Williams

Janette “Jan” Lea Williams, 77, passed away peacefully on August 14, 2026.
Jan was born on October 5, 1948, to J.E. and Wilma Oathout. She grew up in Caldwell, Kansas, where she met the love of her life, Terry, in the fifth grade. From those early days, Jan and Terry shared a special bond. They remained inseparable throughout their high school years, fell deeply in love, and were married on June 1, 1969.
Jan attended Emporia State University, where she earned her degree in Education. She dedicated her career to teaching and touched the lives of countless students throughout her years in education. She taught at schools in Wellington, South Haven, Kapaun Mt. Carmel, and ultimately finished her career in Udall.
A beloved FACS/Home Economics teacher, Jan taught her students much more than what was required in a classroom. She gave them practical skills and confidence they could carry with them into life beyond school. Her warmth, humor, and genuine care for her students left a lasting impression on many. And, of course, countless former students fondly remember Jan and her famous “Snacksters.”
Jan lived a full and vibrant life. She had a remarkable ability to make those around her feel loved, welcomed, and cared for. Her kindness, joy, and generous spirit touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. Above all, Jan cherished her family and the many relationships she built throughout her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents, J.E. and Wilma Oathout, and her brothers, Kip and Wes Oathout.
Jan is survived by her husband of 57 years, Terry; daughter, Amy Williams Wilkey (Jeff Holmes); son, Wyatt Williams; and sister, Cindy Hamilton (Ed Hamilton). She is also survived by her grandchildren, Blaine Wilkey, Blake Wilkey (Amee Wilkey), Bayley Harris (Jake Harris), Nolan Williams, Braydyn Wilkey (Taylor Seyfert), and Aubree Williams; and her great-grandchildren, Madi, Leah, and Ceisel Harris. She leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, former students, and dear friends who will forever cherish her memory.
Jan’s legacy will live on through the family she loved, the students she inspired, and the countless lives she touched with her love, laughter, and kindness. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 19, 2026 at the Caldwell Presbyterian Church with Pastor J Young officiating.
Memorials may be made to the Caldwell Historical Society and sent in care of the mortuary.
Amy and family, I was so sad when Susan told me of your mom's passing. I know she will be missed by all of you. May your many special memories be a comfort to you.

Prayers for all family at this time. Mrs. Williams was an amazing women and teacher who made class a learning experience that was practical but successful for me as her student.
Terry & family, we were so saddened to hear of Jan’s passing. I can say that the past two summers it has been a joy to catch up & visit with you & Jan at the girls softball games. Terry, Cindy & family’s so sorry to hear about Jan’s passing she was loved & respected by not only close family but also many students that she taught over the years. She was also a valued member of the Caldwell class of 66, she will be greatly missed.🙏
Just a few weeks ago my brother and I ran into Jan and Wyatt at the local Dollar General. It was such a blessing as I hadn’t seen her in probably 40 years and we sure spent some special time in that store. I’m so sorry to hear the news of her passing. She was a beautiful soul.
