Joann Nulik


June 19, 1927 ~ July 4, 2019


Joann Nulik, 92, died Thursday, July 4, 2019 at Botkin Health and Rehab in Wellington, Kansas. Esther Joann Nulik was born on June 19, 1927 in rural Mayfield, KS, in the home of her grandparents, to Herman and Grace (Smith) Niebaum, she grew up in the Caldwell and Corbin, KS area where she was surrounded by an abundance of family. At age 12 she was blessed with a baby brother Eldon Jerome Niebaum. After graduating from Caldwell High School in 1945 she worked at the bank in Corbin.


On June 15, 1946 she married her high school sweetheart Kenneth Lee Nulik, and they made their first home in an apartment over the Stock Exchange Bank. To this union three daughters were born, Vicki Lee, Sheryl Lyn, and Shelley Ann. She was an avid seamstress, sewing many outfits for her children, grandchildren, and herself. She also enjoyed making doll clothes and teaching her grandchildren to sew if they were so inclined. After her youngest daughter turned four, she returned to working outside of the home. She worked at the Stock Exchange Bank in Caldwell for 34 1/2 years, starting as a teller and retiring on June 30, 1989 as Vice President. She was also a member of the Hospital District #1 Board for several years.


After retirement, she and Kenneth enjoyed traveling, camping in their 5th wheel, and spending time with family and friends. She looked forward to her high school reunions every year and was very proud of her alma mater. Nothing made her prouder than her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She loved spending as much time as possible with her family, entertaining them for holidays, birthdays, and special occasions. Her faith was also a very important part of her life. She was a member of the United Methodist Church for 67 years and also a member of the United Methodist Women’s Guild (UMW).


Joann was preceded in death by her parents, husband Kenneth, brother Jerome Niebaum, mother-in-law and father-in-law Joseph and Jennie Nulik, and sister-in-law Jo Ann Nulik.


She is survived by her daughters Vicki Morrison of Wellington, KS; Sheryl (Greg) Nickol of Great Falls, MT; and Shelley (Gary) Coffey of Harper, KS. Eight grandchildren: Chad (Kyane) May of Clearwater, KS; Michelle (Cody) Bergman of Harper, KS; Joe (Jessica) Nickol of Great Falls, MT; Jennifer (Chris) Barker, Wellington, KS; Chris (Jennifer) Koehler, Anthony, KS; Heather (Jeff) Hughes, Billings, MT; Kristian (Kate) Nickol, Billings, MT; and Hilary Nickol, Great Falls, MT; twenty-four great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren, as well as sister-in-law Judy Niebaum Marden, Lawrence, KS.


Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 12, 2019 at the United Methodist Church in Caldwell, Kansas.


Memorials may be given in memory of Joann to the United Methodist Women, Caldwell Alumni Association or to Good Shepherd Hospice and may be left in care of the mortuary.
