Joe Jelinek


Joe Fred Jelinek was born October 1, 1929 on the Bluff City farm. He was the youngest of 6 children. Joe passed away on Christmas day at the Patterson Health Center at the age of 90 years, 2 month and 24 days.


The Marine Corp was his calling and he served in the Korean War. He was discharged with honor in 1954 as a corporal.


While serving overseas, Joe married the love of his life Peggy Jean Jones on June 7, 1952. They were blessed with 2 children, Marilyn and Richard.


When he returned home, he became a truck driver for several years. He also owned and operated an auto shop.


As wheat harvest approached, he decided to custom cut from Texas to the Canadian border. Then, ran and operated Jelinek Fertilizer, along with raising cattle until his retirement.


Joe loved playing cards and gambling. Everywhere he went he made sure there was a pitch game in the making. He taught his grandkids the game as well.


He will be missed by his daughter Marilyn and her husband Jerry Osborn of Oxford, KS; daughter-in-law Susan Jelinek of Anthony, KS; grandchildren, Stacie Osborn of Winfield, KS, Scott Osborn of Oxford, KS, Sara Reneau of Medford, OK, Nikki Blair of Anthony, KS and Adam (Jennifer) Jelinek of Bloomington, IL; great-grand-children Ariel Wilcox, Mikkie Neilson, Bradi Osborn, Dallton and Dalen Blair, Nicholas and Kaitlyn Jelinek, Richard Nowell, Raylee and Jesse Reneau.


He was preceded in death by his wife Peggy Jelinek; son, Richard; brothers, Stanley and Charlie; sisters, Evelyn, Polly and Faye and 2 great-grandchildren.


Services 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 28, 2019 at the Schaeffer Mortuary Chapel, Caldwell, Kansas.


Interment will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Bluff City, Kansas.


Memorials may be given in memory of Joe to the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Bluff City, Kansas and may be left in care of the mortuary.
