Josephine Subera


January 25, 1917 ~ October 17, 2013


Josephine Slavik Subera passed away at the Sumner County Hospital District #1 on October 17, 2013.


Josephine was born on a farm west of Renfrow on January 25, 1917 to Mike and Josephine Slavik. Early in Josephine’s life, the family moved to a farm west of Caldwell where she resided until her marriage. On June 1, 1937, she married Louis Edward Subera. They established their home and raised their two children on a farm northwest of Renfrow. Her husband passed away in May, 2003. She had spent the last few years as a resident of the Phoenix House in Caldwell and the Servant Living Center of Medford.


She was a charter member of the Redbud Club. Her favorite hobbies were crocheting, sewing, knitting and gardening. Over the years, she has knitted many net scratchers, pot holders and dish cloths, and has enjoyed giving these handmade gifts to her visitors.


She is survived by her daughter, Carol Burns of Houston, and her son, Leon Subera and his wife, Darla, of Medford. She has four grandchildren, Brenda Zetka and husband, Kenny, Tracy Burns, all of Houston, TX, Dr. Layne Subera and wife Amy of Skiatook, OK and Stacy Subera Migliore and husband, Roscoe of Jenks, OK. She has eight great- grandchildren, James, Nicholas and Travis Zetka; Hayleigh and Luke Subera; Channing, Abby and Evan Migliore.


Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 21, 2013 at the Schaeffer Mortuary Chapel, Caldwell, Kansas.


Interment will be in the Caldwell City Cemetery, Caldwell, Kansas.


Memorials may be given in memory of Josephine to the Wounded Warrior Project or to the Sumner County Hospital District #1.
