August 15, 1944 ~ May 19, 2015
Joy Marie Turek, age 70, died unexpectedly on May 19, 2015, at Wesley Hospital in Wichita, Kansas. She was born August 15, 1944 at Lyons, Kansas, the daughter of George and Vera Sargent Moore.
Joy attended school in Chase and was a cheerleader for the Chase Jinx during her high school years. After graduation on May 17, 1962 she moved to Wichita, Kansas and worked for Southwestern Bell. On April 16, 1966 she married Gene Turek and moved to their farm north of South Haven. As a “small town girl” she knew nothing of the farm. She adapted quickly and soon became a vital part of the operation. She eventually helped to raise hundreds of sheep, cattle, acres of crops and took many meals to the field all the while raising four children and never missing an event any of them were involved in.
Joy’s pride and joy after her children were grown were her grandchildren. She was very involved in each of their lives. Her passion was attending their events whether it be academic, musical, or athletic they knew “Grandma” would always be there. She enjoyed bingo but especially quilt bingo with her granddaughters, playing cards with her friends and drinking coffee with the “girls”. She was blessed being able to meet her newest granddaughter before her passing.
Survivors include, her husband Gene Turek of Caldwell; sons, Tim Turek (Jill) of South Haven, Greg Turek (Lacy) of Caldwell; daughters, Julie (Doug) Wolf of South Haven, Jo (Turek) Bailey of Emporia and sister, Opal Siebrandt; 10 grandchildren; Whitney, Paige and Rachel Turek, Holly (Josh) Davidson, Cody, Kayden and Cooper Wolf, Jagger and Josie Turek, Jorja Turek; great-grandson, Eli Davidson and faithful companion Bella.
She was preceded in death by one infant daughter, Teresa Ann Turek; her parents, George and Vera Moore; brothers, Alvis Moore, Floyd Moore and Terry Moore; sisters, Bea Gilmore and Nadine Dreiling; father-in-law, George Turek and mother-in-law, Lillian Turek.
Family visitation was held on Thursday, May 21, 2015 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Schaeffer Mortuary in Caldwell.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 23, 2015 at the United Methodist Church in South Haven, Kansas.
In lieu of flowers a Joy Turek Scholarship has been established. Memorial contributions may be left with the mortuary.

I was so sorry to hear of Joys passing. I didn't see her often, but we always had a good talk when I did see her. The last time I saw Joy we were talking about how both of us had been going through and getting rid of "stuff". And where were we, but at Maxine's auction! We both laughed at that! I know she loved you kids and grandkids so much. Keeping all of you in my thoughts and prayers.

Joy was a great friend to me and I will miss her so much. We shared so many wonderful times eating out with our friends, morning coffee and 4 p.m. calls to go out for a coke. My heart is very sad.
She had a great love for her family. Our prayers for all of you as you go through this sad time.

Joy was such a wonderful, hard-working woman and an admired member of the South Haven community. The last time I saw Joy was when I photographed the Turek Harvest a few summer's ago. In true Joy-fashion, she held me in conversation for quite awhile as I was getting ready to leave, probably the longest conversation she and I had in all the years I knew her. That was a great evening spent with the Turek's, a family who has meant a great deal to my family. My heart goes out to all of you as you grieve the loss of Joy. I'm sorry we can't be with you on Saturday. We will be thinking of you and sending warm and healing thoughts your way.

I was so shocked to get the news of Joy's passing. Of course, Gene and I went to CHS, same year and I became well acquainted with Joy when I worked at the Stock Exchange Bank. I always admired her. Gene and her family will truly miss Joy, as will all of her friends. It is always so hard to loose some one that is so close, but when unexpectedly it seems you never get to say every thing you want to say. Gene and family will be in our hearts and prayers.

Our hearts are still in shock & heartbroken over losing Joy so suddenly. The last time I saw her was Christmas time 2014 having coffee with the "girls" @ Kay's Corner. I think back over the years of Joy being a "room mother" for Tim & I's class. The many "treats" she made us all. YUM! It's like losing a piece of your childhood. I have & still to this day think of her often because of the high school graduation gift she gave me...a mauve (cause it was the color of the 80's) set of Tupperware cannisters. She said that one day I would need them when I had to bake/cook & set up my own place. To this very day I still use those & think of her when I glance @ them & pull them out to use. I will always remember her hard work ethic & the ultimate example of a farmer's wife she displayed. Our deepest sympathies & prayers to the Turek family.

We were so sorry to hear about Joy. Curtis loved working for the Turek's. He always said they farmed, we gardened. Joy was the hardest working woman I knew - just look at her hands. They tell a story. Marcus and Greg use to tease Joy by mouthing out words so she would think her hearing aids weren't working. Silly boys! She had a good sense of humor. And Jo, so happy your mama got to see her newest grandbaby! I guess the circle of life hits all of us - losing a loved one into the arms of Jesus and new life coming into the world. Love you guys!

We send our condolences in the loss of your wife, mother, grandmother. It is very difficult when your loose someone unexpected. Roger and I went to CHS with Gene and we did not have the privlege of knowing Joy. She had to be a saint. We pray that God will give you the eyes to see beyond the clouds of earth into the glory of heaven and the peace that comes from knowing that the one you love is there in His arms.
