COURTESY NOTICE

Kenneth Howard Roberts, 86, a resident of Miami, Oklahoma, passed away on Monday, June 9, 2025 at Mercy Hospital in Joplin, Missouri. Kenneth was born on December 29, 1938, to Myron and Myrtle (Sparkman) Roberts. Kenneth went to Lincoln Grade School through his primary school years, then to Miami Junior High and Miami High School graduating with his class of 1956. He transferred to Pittsburg State Teachers College in the fall of 1958. He graduated with the class of 1961, with a major in mathematics and a minor in science, with a teaching certificate.

He signed on as a math teacher at Caldwell, Kansas High School in the summer of 1961, where he taught for thirty -six years. Kenneth loved algebra and could have taught it all day long. He got his master’s degree at Wichita State University in 1969. He furthered his education with many more years of graduate hours. Kenneth loved education and learning. Kenneth liked history, especially world history. He could carry on lengthy conversations on just about any subject you wanted to talk about. Some of his former students found this out.

Kenneth was a member of the Cadwell Lions Club, receiving the Prestigious Presidents Award and was a fifty-year member. Kenneth met the love of his life Lela in the summer of 1958, and they married later that December. They were happily married for 66 years. Most of the time when you saw one of them, you saw both, as they did everything together. Kenneth loved to hunt and fish every chance he got. Lela always teased him that he had four passions in life, number one was hunting, number two was fishing, number three was his dog, number four was her. He would look at her and say, “I don’t know you might have come in third depending on what dog I had at the time!” While looking at her with a silly grin and laugh.

Kenneth is survived by his wife, Lela, of the home, his sister-in-law and brother-in-law Bill and Mable Tuner of Commerce, sister-in-law Mary Cox of Miami, many cousins, Ron Sparkman, Sherry Anderson, Donne Oyler, Janice Graham, Nina James, Robert (Bucky) Chaplin, many nieces and nephews, and many friends.

Preceding him in death were both his parents, his brother Herbert Roberts, and several close friends.

Graveside services will be held at the Grand Army of the Republic Cemetery, 2801 N. Main Street, Miami Oklahoma, on Friday, June 13, 2025 at 2:00 P.M., Kenneth will be truly missed!
