Lawrence (Larry) Huddleston, 72, of South Haven, passed away Wednesday, July 11, 2018 in Haysville, Kansas. He was born to Francis and Lela (Mantooth) Huddleston in Wellington, Kansas on November 23, 1945. He was raised on the farm west of South Haven where he attended elementary and high school. In his early years, he found a love of music which lasted through his life.
L.B. to his family and friends, earned his teaching degree in music from Bethany College and went on to teach in Kansas and Colorado. Helping students express themselves through song was a joy in his life.
L.B. retired from teaching and returned to South Haven to help his mother and brother. He worked at the Kansas Welcome Center. He enjoyed welcoming visitors and answering questions to make their travels easier.
He had a special place in his heart for his nephew and nieces, and he was very proud, displaying and sharing their pictures.
Lawrence is survived by one brother, Don Huddleston of Wellington; sister-in-law Bunny Huddleston of Concord, New Hampshire; nephew Justin Huddleston and wife Jamie and their children Leah and Emma of Henniker, New Hampshire; niece, Sarah Dickinson and her husband Reg of Pembroke, New Hampshire; uncle, Charles Mantooth and his wife Ruthie of Woodland Hills, California; aunts, Maxine Mitchell of Caldwell, Kansas, Marie Ann Mantooth of Sterling, Kansas and many cousins.
He is preceded in death by his parents and brother Darrell Huddleston.
Memorials may be given in memory of Lawrence to South Haven Schools, USD #509 and left in care of the mortuary.
A memorial graveside will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 1, 2018 at the Rose Hill Cemetery, South Haven, Kansas.

So sorry to hear about Lawrence. We were classmates from 2nd grade through high school and friends ever since. I had a good visit with him last September when in So. Haven - will cherish that memory and many, many more that I have of Lawrence. Will miss his hugs every time we saw each other. God bless you, Lawrence - you'll be truly missed.

Lawrence, or Larry, as I liked to call him was a wonderful person. I am so sadden by his loss. We were school mates , and enjoyed lots of fun times together. Memories can never be taken away. (Smile)

Tremendous Support for His Family

Lawrence was a very nice person and devoted to his family. At his own expense, Lawrence provided material and emotional support for his mother, and brother Donnie for many years. He put their well being ahead of his own self interests on many occasions, making sacrifices for their benefit. Everyone should be so lucky to have a relative like Lawrence. He had a keen sense of humor, was a track star in high school and loved music. He will definitely be missed.

Lawrence/Larry was a good-hearted man with a great sense of humor. Loved his laugh! We had so many good times together with other classmates in high school and we reconnected after he returned to South Haven to help care for his brother and mother after his dad died. He had wide-ranging interests and loved to travel, though he didn’t get to do as much as he would have liked. He faced many adversities with dignity and tenacity! I will miss him.

Friendly Lawrence, a sad goodbye

I remember Lawrence mostly from band and those fun band trips. He was always so friendly and nice to me. (He was one grade ahead of me at SHHS). I visited with Lawrence and Yvonne not too many years ago, and was delighted to hear that he had become a music teacher. The perfect career for him. I know his brother Donnie will miss Lawrence so much. When you come from a small town, every loss hurts.
