Lily C. Baker, 90 years young of Winfield, KS died in her home April 3, 2019. She was born February 9, 1929 on a farm in Bluff City, Kansas to Charles Anton and Carrie Jelinek Anton.
Lily attended Bluff City High School class of 1948, where she was a proficient trombone player and singer.
Lily married Edwin Baker on November 3, 1948. They had four children, Mary L Waters-married to the late Ronnie Waters of Winfield, Kansas, their son Charles M. Waters of Winfield, Kansas; Norma J. Baker of Englewood, Colorado; Betty A. Baker married to Peggy Brady of Englewood, Colorado; and Martin L. Baker married to Donna Baker of Winfield, Kansas, their son Keith Baker, his wife Angela and great grandsons, Jordon and Brett Baker of Arkansas City, Kansas.
Raised on a farm she had a lifelong passion for growing things. Lily and Edwin moved to a farm 10 miles west of Caldwell, Kansas and always had a huge garden, chickens and cattle.
As a young bride Lily had to teach herself to cook with the help of cookbooks and became quite proficient.
Never one to shun from hard work Lily worked side by side with Edwin in the fields, driving a tractor and harvest truck while raising their four children.
Lily enjoyed home projects not only for herself but others such as wallpapering, gardening and growing flowers. She was active in the 4-H Clubs and her children’s activities in school.
Lily and Edwin retired from the farm in 1987 and moved to Caldwell, Kansas.
In 2017, Lily moved to Winfield, Kansas to live with her daughter, Mary.
Lily always enjoyed visiting with people and playing cards (she was a mean pitch player), dancing (of course to Czech music) and traveling.
She is preceded in death by her two brothers Charles and Frankie (who died in infancy); parents Charles and Carrie Anton, her sister Louise Sheen and her husband, Edwin L. Baker.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 6, 2019 at the Schaeffer Mortuary Chapel, Caldwell, Kansas.
