Lois Powell

March 5, 1927 ~ September 23, 2015

Lois Evelyn Powell, 88, of Medford, OK passed away Wednesday, September 23, 2015 at the Bass Integris Hospital in Enid, Oklahoma. She was born March 5, 1927 on the family farm in Grant County OK near Renfrow, the only child of Jim and Etta Falkenberg.

Lois attended grade school in rural Grant County and graduated from Deer Creek High School in 1945. She received a teaching certificate from Northwestern Oklahoma State University, Alva, Oklahoma and taught at Springdale School.

She married the love of her life, Willard Powell on December 24, 1946 in Anthony, KS. They made their home on the farm in rural Grant County, Oklahoma. They farmed until Willard passed away on October 4, 1997 and son Jim and wife Gina continued the family farm operation. Lois lived on the farm until her death.

Lois loved her family very much and always told them so. She was a very sweet lady and always had a hug for everyone.

Lois loved her life on the farm and never wanted to move to town. She took great pride in her house and yard, wanting everything to be nice and neat. She loved her cats and was always concerned with their wellbeing. She loved to bowl and prided herself on the fact that she bowled at the Caldwell Bowl the entire time it was open. She made many wonderful friends and won several trophies while bowling.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents and husband Willard.

She will be greatly missed by her daughter, Judy and son-in-law, Tom Briggs of Wichita, KS; her son, Jim and daughter-in-law Gina Powell of Caldwell, KS; grandchildren Natalie Eberwein of San Antonio, TX and Jason Mardis and fiancé Crystal Baugh of Anthony, KS and great-grandchildren Kevin, Jr. and Kara Eberwein and great-grandson Mardis due in November, 2015; very special friend Madge Volavka and many friends and family.

A funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, September 28, 2015 at the Central Christian Church in Caldwell, Kansas.

Memorials may be given in memory of Lois to the Springdale Cemetery and left with the mortuary.

Greatly Missed

Gweneth Reeder West - 09/23/2015

Lois was a very special lady. She will be missed. I am unable to come for the service as I have a doctor's appointment at 9:00. I've waited five months to get this lab work, etc. done. So there is no way I will cancel my appointment. It won't seem right that Lois is no longer residing in the "Springdale Community."

Known Lois all my life

Debbie Krehbiel - 09/24/2015

I have known Lois all my life and she is one of the sweetest ladies I've ever known! We lived two miles from them when I was growing up and they were all just like part of our family. Lois had such a gentle touch and caring heart! When I was sick, I always wanted Lois there. I never wanted anyone but Lois to give me my perms....she was so gentle! She made me toast after school and cut it in triangles. That made the toast taste so much better! Whenever I needed to go there after school, I was a happy girl! I love playing cards or a good game of "Yahtzee" with her. She would never turn me down when I asked her to play a game. These memories are only just a few of many, that will live on in my heart forever! I'm sure that her and Willard are so happy to be reunited and may they now dance again in heaven!

Laverne Chapman - 09/24/2015

I met Lois about 11 years ago when I worked at Karl's grocery store and at Church. She was one of the sweetest ladies I know. Got to know her a lot more when the ladies invited me to have lunch with them after Church. She reminded me of my grandmother as a lady with so much love in her heart. We will miss her very much and even more at lunch on Sunday's.

Let the Lord comfort you.

Roger Mattingly - 09/26/2015

I am sorry to hear of Lois' passing. I grew up 2 miles from Lois and Willard and spent many happy times with them. We went to the same college, and I graduated from Springdale school and was classmates with Jim and Judy. She was one of my mother's close friends. Lois was very kind and loving and when I worked many summers for her and Willard, she cooked wonderful food for our meals. May the peace of our Lord be with her children and families and comfort them in this time of grief. Roger Mattingly Wichita KS

To the family of Lois Powell,

Elizabeth White... - 10/06/2015

I am the younger daughter of Eva & Lloyd White - Elizabeth "Libby" White Pruitt. I take the Medford paper and we saw that Lois had passed away on Sept. 23rd. Our sympathy and prayers are with the family. My mother, Eva White, passed away on April 12, 2015. Our families both realized how much Lois and Eva loved each other, and how much they loved their husbands.
