Marvin R. Kloefkorn

November 25, 1924 ~ November 17, 2011

Marvin Ray Kloefkorn was born on November 25, 1924, in Freeport, Kansas. He was the third surviving son of Mart and Josie Kloefkorn. He died on Wednesday, November 17, 2011, at the Galichia Heart Hospital at the age of 86. He had been residing at Gracious Living Bethel House in Wichita with his wife Frances until he entered the hospital on Tuesday, November 15. His dearly loved sister, Imogene, was with him when he took his final breath.

Marvin was raised in the Caldwell and Bluff City area and attended country schools. He attended Caldwell High School and graduated with the class of 1942.

Marvin married Frances Snyder on July 22, 1945. They celebrated 66 years of marriage. They were blessed with three daughters: Connie, Trudy, and Kathy, and two sons: Randy and Bradley.

Marvin was at first a farmer, and then a car dealer. In April of 1968, Marvin and Frances opened Kloefkorn Chevrolet at 21 N. Main in Caldwell, KS. The business continued until it was sold in the early 90’s. He continued selling cars for the new owners. In the early 2000’s, Marvin built a new shop at 202 N. Main in Caldwell. There, he serviced cars for people in the community. He and Frances also brought the Kloefkorn Carwash to Caldwell and opened two trailer parks.

In August of 2010, Marvin and Frances moved to Bethel House in Wichita, Kansas, to be closer to family. There, he was known for his great smile, his cheery chuckle, and his love for his wife. He was also known for his hearty appetite and love of food, and there were a few of his dining partners who would often find some of their food mysteriously missing when Marvin decided he needed it more than the other person.

Preceding him in death were his daughter Connie, his parents Mart and Josie, and five brothers Maurice, Glenn, Basil, Max, and Dean.

He is survived by his wife Frances, son-in-law Larry Walters, daughters Trudy and Joe Miller, Kathy and Larry Gann, sons Randy and Leigh Ann Kloefkorn and Brad and Patricia Kloefkorn; grandchildren Jeff and Jen Walters, Heather Walters, Megan Miller, Leah and Champak Chatterjee, Tori and Branden Bohannon, Greg and Meranda Gann, Erika and Joseph Lizotte, Gretchen and James Dreher, Heidi Kloefkorn, Christopher Kloefkorn, and Katrina Kloefkorn; and great-grandchildren Katy Walters, Adam Chatterjee, Bryson Gann, Taylor Bohannon, Taryn Bohannon, Mason Lizotte, Boden Lizotte, and Stella Dreher; brother Merle and Yvonne Kloefkorn, and “sistee uglers” Wanda Biggs and Imogene and Don Hilton as well as numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 21, 2011 at the Corbin United Methodist Church with Rev. Donna Wise officiating. Interment will be in the Caldwell City Cemetery.

Visitation with the family will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Sunday at Schaeffer Mortuary.

Memorials may be given in Marvin’s name to the Corbin United Methodist Church.

Today is a special day to remember and celebrate memories of Marvin. To all of his family we wish you a special day together as you remember the ties that are so important. For years Marvin was the greeter and an usher at Corbin Church. He was always there with a smile to hand out bulletins. He was a special man. Our thoughts and prayers are with each of you. We are sorry that we are not able to join you today at Corbin. May God be with each of you. Love, Marilyn and Jerry
