Mary Smock passed away on December 10, 2021 at Caldwell Hospital at the age of 84. She was born on April 21, 1937 in Falfurrias, Texas to Ed Nickel and Manda Davis Nickel.
Mary wed Murray Smock on February 5, 1961. Together they shared a lifetime of farming in the Caldwell area.
Mary’s other lifelong career was working for many years as a nurses aide taking care of many people in the Caldwell community. She first worked at Leisure Center Nursing Home and then went to work at the Caldwell Hospital until retirement. She loved quilting and making quilts for her family.
She is preceded in death by her parents Ed Nickel and Manda (Nickel) Esterline, husband Murray Smock, daughter Barbara Puckhaber, sisters Donna Hoskins and Ruby Jones.
Survivors include son Larry Malden, daughter Brenda Strickland (Charlie), grandson Jason Strickland (Beth), granddaughter Kayla Betzen (Curtis), great-grandchildren Avery, Natalie, Owen, Alexa and Addison, several nieces and nephews.
Following cremation a memorial service will be held at a later date.
Memorials may be given in Mary’s memory to the Sumner County Hospital District #1 and left in care of the mortuary.
