Maxine Bevington

Margaret Maxine Cunningham Bevington, 84, died Thursday, June 20, 2013.


Maxine was born Sept. 12, 1928, in Brookfield, Missouri, to the late Paul and Bertha Cunningham. She graduated from Caldwell High School in 1946 and worked at Shahan Drug Store.


Maxine married Glenn Bevington in 1947 in Arkansas City, Kansas. She was a devoted mother of five and housewife for many years. Her husband’s job with the railroad moved them to numerous cities, including Medicine Lodge, Kansas; Pratt, Kansas; Amarillo, Texas; and Topeka, Kansas. After retiring, they lived in Jacksboro, Texas, before moving back to Amarillo, Texas. She lived in Amarillo for over 40 years. Maxine was a Unit Manager at St. Anthony’s Hospital from 1968 to 1980.


Maxine was a member of Polk Street United Methodist Church. She loved being “Memom” to her many grandchildren and great grandchildren and especially loved to watch them play sports. She rarely missed a baseball game or wrestling tournament. She was also an avid Texas Rangers baseball fan and Dallas Cowboys football fan.


She was preceded in death by her daughter, Glennda March; a granddaughter, Keri Nebgen; a grandson, Larry Carpenter; a great grandson, Wyatt Nebgen; four brothers, Laurin Cunningham, Leonard Cunningham, Bernard Cunningham and Gale Cunningham; two sisters, Wilma Dean Reeves and Dorothy Cunningham; a sister-in-law, Mary Jane Cunningham; and a brother-in-law, Leo Reeves.


Survivors include her husband of 66 years, Glenn Bevington; four children, David Bevington and wife Denise of Amarillo, Texas, Edwin Bevington and wife Donna of Marble Falls, Texas, Peggy Carpenter and husband Tres of Jacksboro, Texas, and John Bevington of Amarillo, Texas. She is also survived by Robbin Bevington Ramirez of Amarillo, Texas. Survivors also include 10 grandchildren. She was both proud and excited about the upcoming birth of her 20th great grandchild. Other survivors include two brothers, Adrian Cunningham and wife Roberta of Caldwell, Kansas, and Durwood Cunningham and wife Roberta of Rolla, Missouri; two sisters, Pauline Osburn of Spokane Valley, Washington, and Mary Louise Barber and husband CN of Sacramento, California; and three sisters-in-law, Naomi Cunningham of Nevada, Missouri, Irene Cunningham of Vancouver, Washington, and Laurene Cunningham of Derby, Kansas.


A graveside service will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 28, 2013 at the Caldwell City Cemetery, Caldwell, Kansas.


Memorials may be given in Maxine's name to donors choice.
