Maxine Hess


May 2, 1921 ~ February 26, 2015


Maxine Mae Hess passed from this life into heaven on February 26, 2015. Maxine was the second child of John H. and Louella E. Builta, born May 2, 1921, one of 11 children, she was 93 yrs. old at the time of her passing. Her husband Gilbert Hess preceded her in death in March of 2001.


She is survived by two sisters, Louella Doris Voorhis of Caldwell, KS and Anna Belle Woodward of Towanda, KS, two brothers Lee Builta and wife Peggy of White Rock, NM and Robert Builta and wife Shirlene of Timberon, NM, one sister-in-law Claudene Builta of Joplin, MO, 4 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.


Maxine retired from Cessna Aircraft in Wichita, KS in May of 1986 to take care of her father. While at Cessna she worked as Rosy the riveter and helped enrich everyone's life as Union Stewart.


She had vast hobbies; bowling in many tournaments throughout the US, painting quilts, t-shirts, and sweatshirts. She loved her gardening, feeding the animals and birds, and sharing time with her family. She was active in the First Baptist Church, The Busy Hands Club, and the Caldwell Senior Center.


Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 6, 2015 at the Schaeffer Mortuary Chapel, Caldwell, KS.


Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday and 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Schaeffer Mortuary.


Memorials may be given in memory of Maxine to the First Baptist Church,Caldwell or to the Corzine Cemetery, Corbin, KS.

Maxine was a good friend of my little momma.. she made me a cap because she said my head woul get cold walking several yrs back and I still wear it... she and her sister were in the club... busy hands with mom... always a smile and a howdy... miss seeing her around...

Was so sorry hear of Maxine's passing.I met Maxine and her sisters while I worked at Karl's and they became very good friends. Maxine was one of the sweetest ladies and she will be greatly missed. She lived life to the fullest.
