Maxine LeCounte


July 6, 1925 ~ December 17, 2013


Maxine Ruby LeCounte passed away on December 17, 2013 at Spring View Manor in Conway Springs due to complications of cancer. She was born on a farm nine miles north of Caldwell to Gusta and Agnes (Jelinek) Wolff on July 6, 1925. Following attending school at Corbin, she met James Ray LeCounte at a dance and they were wed on July 14, 1946. To this union, two children, Kenneth and Kevin were born. They farmed near Renfrow, Oklahoma and moved to Caldwell where she worked at the hospital before moving to Wichita where she worked as a physical therapy aid until retiring.


She was a member of the Eastern Star, the ZCBJ Lodge and the Christian Church. Maxine enjoyed travel, auctions, garage sales and particularly her grandchildren. She also enjoyed spending time with her friends. Helping persons in time of illness or need brought her great satisfaction both at work and at home.


She was predeceased by her parents, Gusta and Agnes Wolff, her husband, James Ray LeCounte, her brother, Lewis Buster Wolff, her brother and sister-in-law, Roy and Nora LeCounte.


She is survived by her sons, Kenneth of Lawrence and Kevin of Caldwell, daughters-in law, C.B. of Lawrence and Ginger of Caldwell, grandchildren Cristi Smith and her husband Jed, Heather Schultz and Sean Boyer, Owen LeCounte and Patrick LeCounte, and great-grandchildren Alexandria and Elizabeth Smith. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Dot Wolff.


Funeral services wll be held 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 20, 2013 at the Central Chrstian Church in Caldwell, Kansas.


Memorials may be given to the Maxine LeCounte Scholarship Fund, South Haven High School, South Haven, Kansas.
