Merry Murdock

Merry Murdock passed away January 27, 2026, in Conway Springs, KS at the Spring View Manor Nursing Home at the age of 92.

She was born on September 18, 1933, in Blackwell, OK. She grew up in South Haven, KS where her parents owned the local grocery store. She lived for the last 57 years of her life in Caldwell, KS, married to Clifford Murdock.

She had worked many jobs over the years. She was a great cook, putting that talent into working as the Dietary Supervisor at the Caldwell nursing home for several years.

She and Clifford owned and operated City Plumbing in Caldwell. She was also a talented sewist. She had her Singer Sewing Machine set up at the plumbing shop sewing for her family and the general public. She made most of her children’s clothes when they were young and taught several of her daughters the art of sewing.

After closing the plumbing shop Merry and Clifford became foster parents to many, many young people both in their home and later as House Parents at Youthville in Newton, KS.

Her retirement years were spent enjoying her sewing projects adding machine embroidery and quilt making to her talents. She made beautiful quilts, throws, wall hangings, pillows and other keepsakes for her family and friends.

She had seven children who called her “Mom.” Terry (Dan) Riney of Baldwin City, KS; CL (Shirley) Henton of Council Grove, KS; Laura (Harvey) Young of Caldwell; Pam Lee of Caldwell; Carla VanLandingham (deceased); Tim Coleman of Colorado; Merry (Craig) Allen of Jonesboro, AR.

She is survived by Clifford of Spring View Manor in Conway Springs; six of her seven children; and five generations of grandchildren including: Erica (Dan) Kuhlmeier of Garden City, KS; Allison O’Brate of Garden City; Tara Trear of Goldsby, OK; Chad (Vicky) Henton of Herington KS; Emily (Clifton) Jones of Caldwell; Katelynn (Desiree) Young of Caldwell; Scott (Krystal) Lee of Caldwell; Lacey Lee of Ohio; Skyler Seals; JoAnne Young of Alva, OK; Bentley VanLandingham of Kansas City, MO; Saraben (Scott) Turner of Evergreen, CO; Nicholas VanLandingham of Cherokee, OK; Devery (Chelsey) VanLandingham of Aline, OK; Chandler (Kane) Kunz of Denver, CO; Faith (Jacob) Jones of Jonesboro; Devon Allen of Jonesboro; 38 great-grandchildren; 33 great-great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-great-grandchild.

In addition to her daughter, Carla, she was preceded in death by her father and mother, Clinton and Sarah Robinson; her brother, Maurice Robinson, and sister-in-law Kay Robinson; an infant brother; grandsons Harvey Young, Jr., and David Young and a granddaughter Shelly Bunch.

Following cremation, no services will be held.

Memorials may be made to Springview Manor and sent in care of the mortuary.
