Michele Rice

January 28, 1963 ~ May 25, 2017

Michele Marie (Hebert) Rice passed away at home, surrounded by her family on Thursday, May 25, 2017 at 54 years of age. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and sister. Michele met the love of her life, Brent Rice, in July 1982 and they were married July 16, 1983, in Palatine, Illinois. She was the loving mother of Austin (Jessica) Rice and Alisha (Tyler) Belmear; treasured grandma to Dobson, Faith, and Evelyn; sister to Ralph (Kim) Hebert, James (Melissa) Hebert, Maureen (Tab) Jensen and John Hebert; and the most fun-loving aunt to 29 nieces and nephews.

Michele and Brent moved to the Rice family farm in Corbin, Kansas in 1983; eventually moving with their children to Caldwell, Kansas in 1999. Michele was a teacher for 22 years, having graduated with her Bachelor’s degree from Newman University in 1995 and then receiving her Master’s degree from Emporia State University in 2010.

Her greatest passion was her family, followed only by educating young minds. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, who were the center of her world. She always kept Brent busy with a new Do-It-Yourself project. She loved baking and trying out new recipes in the kitchen.

The visitation will be held at Schaefer Mortuary, 6 N Main St, Caldwell, Kansas, Monday, May 29th from 10:00am-8:00pm. Funeral services will be held at Corbin United Methodist Church, 1126 S Robin Road, Corbin, Kansas on Tuesday, May 30th at 10:00am.

A memorial fund has been created to purchase benches in Michele’s honor which will be placed at Prairie Elementary School, where she was a dedicated educator for the past 12 years. Donations can be made out to Haysville Education Foundation and sent to Michele Rice Memorial, C/O Schaeffer Mortuary, 6 N Main St, Caldwell, Kansas 67022.

Dear Brent, Rice Family and Hebert Family,

Lisa Maguire-Tobin - 05/30/2017

I am so sorry to hear of Michele's passing. Michele was one of my very best friends growing up - we became friends at the age of 4 and our close friendship continued through grade school, high school and while we attended Harper College. I have so many great memories of Michele through the years and spending time at the Hebert home. She seemed to me to be wise beyond her years, and though she was only 6 months older than me, I looked up to her in many ways. One of my favorite times spent with Michele was a senior trip we took together to Daytona Beach. I regretted losing touch with Michele after her wedding and move to Kansas, though I thought of her often and she always remained in my heart. My deepest condolences to you all, and may her spirit live on in all of us.GS
