Monte Stucky

November 21, 1950 ~ April 26, 2020

On April 26, 2020, heaven gained another great cowboy. Monte Eugene Stucky, 69, passed away at his home in South Haven, Kansas surrounded by his wife and children.

He was born the son of Harry Stucky and LaRue Cornelison on November 21, 1950 in Kingman, Kansas.

Monte lived in Pretty Prairie, Kansas before moving to Blackwell, Oklahoma and graduating from Blackwell High School. He worked alongside his father running the Blackwell Livestock Auction during his teenage and young adult years. He served in the Army National Guard out of Blackwell and was married to Donna Jean Shoffner of Braman, Oklahoma on February 7, 1970. He spent 20 years on the South Haven Township Board. Monte loved being a horseman, stockman and farming along the Kansas/Oklahoma state line. He was an avid reader and enjoyed reading about the old west and history. Monte always enjoyed being a part of the “Pony Express” during the South Haven Fair parade, delivering the mail horseback from the floats to the announcer. His favorite days were spent at home with his wife, children and grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Donna Stucky of South Haven, Kansas; two children, TJ Stucky of Blackwell, Oklahoma and Jamie Woods and husband Eric of Norman, Oklahoma; two grandchildren, Syra Stucky and Ty Woods; one brother, Mark Stucky and wife Betsy of Celina, Texas; and one sister, Donna Kruczynski and husband Joe of Girard, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Private services to be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be given to Interim Healthcare (Hospice) of Wellington, Kansas or the South Haven Fair Association.

Words cannot express how saddened we were to hear about Monte! We know he is at peace and riding high, but we will surely miss him. I am a cousin of Monte. Daughter of Laura (Harry's sister) and Phil Stucky of Moundridge. Read obit in Wichita Eagle, where I live. Many years since last contact with Monte, but remember his easy going personality. Remember visting our Grandma Tillie up on the hill outside of Pretty Prairie and seeing his family right down the road. So sorry to hear of your loss. Assume Monte is with his Dad and some of their many horses. Wishing you and yours peace and harmony within the family. Again very sorry for your loss. I am notifying my brothers Roger and Rick and sister Rozanne. Stay safe in this current environment.
