Opal Lebeda


January 15, 1919 ~ April 30, 2013


Opal Marie Lebeda, age 94, passed away peacefully in her home in Caldwell, KS on Tuesday, April 30, 2013. Opal spent her life in the Renfrow, OK and Caldwell, KS area. She was a waitress and served everyone cheerfully and graciously. She worked for Oscar Craig for many years and Troy Adams after that. She retired when Troy sold out in the early 1980's. She enjoyed working in her yard and was a huge animal lover, especially kittens. She liked shopping trips to Enid and Blackwell. She also enjoyed Caldwell Bluejay sports and summer softball games which included Corbin hamburgers.


Opal was born on January 15, 1919, the first child of Edward Herman and Lillie Mae (French) Werneke at home in Renfrow, OK. She attended country school east of Renfrow. Opal married Joe Lebeda Jr. on June 14, 1939 in Enid, OK. To this union one daughter was born. The highlight of her life happened in 1963 when she became a grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1980 and her parents.


Opal is survived by her daughter, Beverly of Caldwell, KS, her grandson, Rhett Jayroe and wife Roxane, step-granddaughter Rylee, and step great grandson, Jace, all of Oklahoma City, OK. Also, her sister Lois Shellhammer of Caldwell, KS, brother Bob Werneke of Renfrow, OK. and several nieces and nephews.


A graveside service will be held 3:00 p.m. Friday, May 3, 2013 at the Caldwell City Cemetery, Caldwell, Kansas.


Memorials may be given in Opal's name to the ASPCA or to the Wellington Humane Society.
