Patricia Pooler-Mardis

November 11, 1935 ~ July 1, 2018

Patricia Anne Pooler-Mardis was born in Abilene, Kansas on November 11, 1935 to Kenneth Leroy and Lillian (Trax) Pooler. Affectionately known as Patty to family and those close to her, this humble, Christ-loving woman made quite a mark on hearts and souls in her 82 years on this earth. As a grandson stated on her passing, “…even in her small, quiet and selfless way of living, she made a huge impact in the lives of her children and those around her.”

Patty’s father died unexpectedly at a very young age, and after some time living with her grandparents in Salina, Kansas, her family grew in 1945 when her mother married Leroy Mardis and they started a home in Wichita, Kansas. Leroy eventually adopted Patty and her sister Carolyn, adding to his family of Floyd, Kay and Ronnie.

After graduating from Anthony High School in 1953, Patty married Harlan Henline in 1953 and started a family in a quaint farmhouse on the outskirts of Bluff City, Kansas. They had 4 children, Pamela, Kelly, Shelly and Denise while living here and another testament to her strength and resolve was that she brought these 4 children into the world in a house with no running water, yet had the kids polished for Church on Sundays.

Following a divorce and relocation to Oklahoma City, she married Larry Burke in 1966 and had a son Larry Burke, Jr., and they relocated the family to Alief, Texas in 1972.

Patty spent time with family in Texas, Florida and Tennessee before returning to Anthony in 2002.

On July 1, 2018, Patty peacefully passed away at Anthony Community Care Center with some of her family and many wonderful caregivers close by. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Kay, and twin sons Marlin and Darwin Henline.

Patty is survived by daughter, Pamela Yacoub of Grapevine, Texas; son, Kelly Henline and his wife Mary Ann of Haslet, Texas; daughters, Shelly Daugherty of Grapevine, Texas and Denise Marshall of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; son Larry Burke, Jr. of Anthony, Kansas and his companion Michelle Duran of Wichita; 13 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren; siblings, Carolyn Paterno, Ronnie Mardis and Floyd Mardis, many nieces, nephews and extended family.

Patty chose to be cremated so there will be no viewing, there will be a memorial service to celebrate her life and love at Anthony Christian Church on Thursday, July 5th at 11:00 AM. presided over by Pastor Ron Eden. The church is located at 817 W. Wheatridge Dr., Anthony, Kansas, 67003.

Memorials may be made in Patty’s name to The American Cancer Society and may be left in care of the mortuary.

At this time and over the past few weeks, I’m bringing up such special memories of your mother. She was such a lovely person and so full of Grace.

May it bring you some peace and comfort to know that caring thoughts and prayers are with you and family every day. All my love, Aunt Alice
