Reba Janzen

April 11, 1934 ~ August 4, 2018

Reba Ann Prophet Janzen, 84, passed away on August 4, 2018 at Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice Center in Wichita, Kansas. She was born on April 11, 1934 in Perry, Oklahoma to Alfred and Louise Prophet. She graduated from Caldwell High School in 1952. After graduation she worked at the Port Café where she met her future husband Melvin “Swede” Janzen. They were married on November 6, 1955 at the First Presbyterian Church in Caldwell, Kansas. From their union, two children, Jeffrey Lee and Andrew Shane, were born.

She worked as a cook and Dietary Manager at Hospital District #1 with a combined 40 years of total service. She was always known for her infamous fried chicken. She was a lifetime member of the First Presbyterian Church in Caldwell and was an active member of the Starlight Club. She loved her garden and numerous flowers. She cultivated colorful and extraordinary blooms in her back yard throughout her life. She was an avid seamstress, having made most of her clothes in her early years. Reba also enjoyed playing bridge and took several painting classes resulting in her lack of empty wall space. The walls of her home, and her sons, are adorned with her work.

She is survived by her two sons, Jeffrey (Steve McCullough) of Caldwell, Kansas and Andrew (Chris Havener) of Council Bluffs, Iowa; her sister Marian Williams of Caldwell, Kansas; her brother Carl (Kay) Prophet of Emporia, Kansas; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband Melvin “Swede” Janzen; her parents Alfred and Louise Prophet; her mother-in-law Kathryn Janzen; her brother and sister-in-law Robert and Mildred Honeyman.

The family will be having a Celebration of Life from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Sugar Sister's, Caldwell, Kansas. Inurnment will be in the Caldwell City Cemetery following the Celebration of Life. In lieu of flowers, the family would like memorials directed in her memory to the Caldwell First Presbyterian Church, The Opera House, or the Caldwell High School Music Department.

So sorry for your loss, I have special memories of Reba, as young

mothers, we did Bible School at the church, then later we both

worked together at Hospital Dist. #1. She was always a special friend.

A special greeting to her sister Marion Williams.

Sorry to read of your loss

Blaine Moore - 08/14/2018

Jeff, Andy, and family,

I was so saddened to open the Messenger and read about the loss of your mother. I was in and out of your house a lot when we were in Jr. Hi. and High School and I always remember being welcomed into your home by Reba. She was always gracious and fun and gave good advice. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
