Sharolyn Mathews, 86, of Drury, KS, retired expediter/administrator, went to be with the Lord, early Monday morning, September 29, 2025. She was born the daughter of Hugh R. and Virginia P. (Crabill) Higgins, July 21, 1939, in Wellington, KS. Sharolyn married Eddie Mathews October 1, 1955 in Miami, OK.
She is survived by her sons, Edward (Shelly) of Statesboro, GA, John of Corbin, KS, Mark (Sandy) of Wellington, KS; daughter, Leila Walker of Arkansas City, KS, brother Robert Higgins of Wellington, KS, sister Glenda Irving of Niangua, MO, sister Jan Hodson of Valley View, TX; 7 grandchildren, Tricia Cook, Anson (Sarah) Mathews, Chris (Kamber) Mathews, Tiffany (Jason) Wallut, Sharolyn (Bryant) Knight, Desiree Mathews, Isaac (Rea) Mathews, 19 great-grandchildren, Colton Cook, Lakin Hansen, Chase Mathews, Preston Hearlson, Jadin Hearlson, Kori Mathews, Riley Mathews, Brody Mathews, Zaden Mathews, Katie Howell, Charlie Saunders, Scout Saunders, Corbin Wallut, Alec Wallut, Jonah Knight, Micah Knight, Thomas Knight, Roman Mathews, Emmaline Mathews, 3 great-great-grandchildren, Crew Cook, Carter Hansen, Gemma Hansen.
Sharolyn was devoted to her family and loved welcoming others into her home, especially during Thanksgiving, which she looked forward to hosting each year. She was known for her dependable nature and compassionate heart. She was always ready to help others and cared deeply for lost or abandoned animals. She enjoyed crocheting, adored roses, and lived out her faith through dedicated service at Corbin United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband George Mathews, Hugh and Virginia Higgins and grandson, Loren Hearlson.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, October 2, 2025 at the Oxford Cemetery, Oxford, Kansas with Pastor J. Young officiating.
Memorials may be made to the Sumner County Humane Society and sent in care of the mortuary.
