Sharon Benke

August 17, 1942 ~ March 10, 2016

Sharon Kay Benke, loving mother, sister, grandma, great grandma and friend was called to heaven on March 10th, 2016 at the Golden Living Center, Wellington, Kansas, at the age of 73.

Sharon was born on August 17, 1942 in Madison, South Dakota to Jack and Virginia Dempsey. She was welcomed home by her only sibling John Flint.

Sharon traveled to many different states, but once she had her youngest child Bonnie, she decided to make Caldwell, Kansas her home in 1967. Her proudest moments was when she gave birth to her four children Barbara, Brenda, Bobby and Bonnie.

As a single parent she always worked hard to provide for her family. Working in different restaurants till she opened up her own cafe "The Family Cafe". She loved serving the people of the community! After closing the cafe she became a caretaker for the elderly. Sharon did this for many years until she started having health problems.

Sharon's favorite past times were first and foremost her children. She loved watching her children play sports and her grandkids play them too! She always loved playing pool till the wee hours of the night with Connie Crawford and Alice Prewitt. Fishing was a passion of hers. She, Connie and Alice would have fishing competitions with Gene Downum and Kenny Fink! She also enjoyed gardening, walking and listening to the radio.

Sharon was the kind of person that would give her shirt off her back if someone needed it or give her last penny if it meant a child or family would be able to eat. She had the biggest heart of gold for friends or strangers.

Survivors include: Her brother John Flint. Daughters: Barbara (Ron), Brenda, and Bonnie. Grandkids: Crystal, Christopher (Cerina), Jennifer (Kelly), Brandon (Toni), Kai, David (Ashley), Lil Art, Tommy, Margarita (Cy), and Weigand. Great grandkids: Chesney, Paisley, Damion, Zander, Norah, Tinsley, Asher, Titus, CJ, and CaliTee.

Sharon is preceded in death by her parents, son Bobby and son in law Art.

Sharon will be missed by all that knew her.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p..m. Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at the Schaeffer Mortuary Chapel in Caldwell, Kansas.

Memorials may be given in memory of Sharon to the Sharon Benke Memorial Fund in care of Schaeffer Mortuary.
