March 23, 1944 ~ March 20, 2018
Stanley Eugene Stark was born March 23, 1944 in Harper, Kansas, one of three boys born to J. Aubrey and Verena (Bridgess) Stark. Stan was a graduate of Anthony High School Class of 1962. He was a member of the Class of 1968 at Wichita State, while also serving in the National Guard.
In 1985, Stan was united in marriage with Cheryl Ann Berry in Anthony, Kansas. On the opening day of hunting season 1985, they were blessed to welcome their son Christopher into the world, joining the family with Cheryl’s children. Stan and Cheryl were also blessed enough to raise their grandchild, Harley Danyelle, who they were able to adopt.
Stan worked tirelessly beside his father and brothers growing up on their dairy farm, then traveled for sales and management positions with multiple companies before returning closer to home for work. Stan finished his career with Nicholas Water Service and Cooperrider Sales. Despite being ready to retire, it didn’t stop Stan from continuing to work in support of Cheryl’s catering service, where you could always find him manning the grill.
Stan was a proud member of the Beta Theta Pi Fraternity and enjoyed catching up with his brothers at alumni events and on the phone. Additionally, Stan loved to hunt, fish, play golf, read, photograph anything he could, watch his kids and grandkids in all their activities, and his daily lunches at Friendship Meals.
On March 20, 2018, Stan passed away at the Harper Hospital; 3 days shy of his 74th birthday. He was preceded in death by his parents J. Aubrey and Verena Stark, step-mother Grace Montague-Stark, step-son Dennis Winkelman, and the in-laws he loved very much Nicholas and Bertha Berry.
He will be greatly missed by his wife Cheryl and daughter Harley Danyelle, of the home; son Christopher and husband Tony of Freehold, New Jersey; brothers Sid Stark and his wife Linda of Wichita, Kansas, and Robert Stark of Houston, Texas; his grandchildren, Easton, Cheyenne, Drake; and a host of relatives and friends.
The Memorial Service will take place on Sunday, March 25th at 2pm at the First Baptist Church in Anthony with the Reverend Warren Stanton officiating. Private inurnment will take place by the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Jana’s Campaign (an organization dedicated to the education and prevention of gender and relationship violence) or The 5th Quarter (a local campaign to offer safe fun for high school students after all home sporting events)—all memorials may be sent in care of Schaeffer Mortuary, 6 N. Main, Caldwell, Kansas 67022
