Vickie Bergner



Vickie Ann (Long) Bergner was born November 2, 1942 to John and Opal Long in Cheyenne Valley, Oklahoma. She passed away on March 17, 2022 in Caldwell, Kansas.

She attended Cheyenne Valley Schools, graduating with the Class of 1960. She then attended business school in Wichita, Kansas. After school she worked for Enterprise Insurance, Mack Truck in Wichita, the Oklahoma State Department in Buffalo, Oklahoma; Enid State School in the foster care division and ended her career with the Oklahoma Department of Corrections in Helena after 35 years.


She married Robert O. Bergner on July 21, 1963 and they enjoyed 59 years of marriage. Vickie and Robert had two children. They adopted John Douglas Bergner when he was 3 days old. They then adopted Vickie’s niece, Trilby Long Schmidt when she was 14 years old.


Vickie enjoyed reading, cross stitching, making baby quilts and cooking. She enjoyed being a grandma of seven, Trower, Eric, Andrew, Kyle, Ben, Abi and Luke; and a great-grandma to Madi, David, Trower Jr. and Bella.


She is preceded in death by her son John Douglas “J.D.” Bergner, her parents John and Opal Long, sister, Charlene Dorr, brother, Darrel Long, and in-laws Pete and Goldie Bergner.


Vickie is survived by her husband, Robert Bergner of the home, daughter Trilby (Daniel) Schmidt of Caldwell, KS and sister, Johnece (Don) Wilson of Hunter, Oklahoma and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 22, 2022 at Schaeffer Mortuary in Caldwell. Graveside Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. at the Lone Star Cemetery in Cheyenne Valley, Oklahoma.


Memorials may be made to the Caldwell Senior Center or to the Waynoka Cemetery and sent in care of the Mortuary.
