Dennis was born in El Dorado, KS on March 31, 1942, to the late Violet Maxine (Mantooth) and Cecil Paul Mitchell. He graduated from Caldwell High School with the Class of 1960, and later graduated with his Bachelor's from Wichita State University in 1972.
